Functional Yin Yoga
30hr YTT
A 4 week Online & Live Hybrid Training
5th November to 26th, 2026
For the teacher who wants to create more targeted Yin classes
Across this Functional Yin Teacher Training, you’ll develop a clear and practical understanding of how Yin shapes work with different areas of the body. You’ll learn the key Yin shapes through their anatomical target areas, understand why you might choose one shape over another, and begin to create classes with much more intention.
You won’t just learn a collection of Yin poses. You’ll understand how to use props, work with skeletal variations and adapt shapes for different bodies, while learning how to create the stillness, atmosphere and conditions that make Yin such a powerful practice.
A sprinkling of what we will learn:
- Understand what you’re choosing and why, rather than simply moving from one familiar shape to the next.
- Create classes with a clear intention, using target areas to guide your choice of shapes and sequencing.
- Work with individual bodies, understanding how anatomy, skeletal variation and props can change the experience of a posture.
This is the next step in your already elaborate teaching toolkit. Your teaching will expand to a higher level in terms of richness, value, experience and enhance your students wellbeing. Whether you’re new to Yin, or are already sharing it, this course gives you a practical framework for understanding the body, choosing shapes with purpose and creating more targeted, insightful and meaningful Yin experiences for your students.
For the Yoga Teacher or Practitioner who wants to…
- Understand Yin Yoga from the ground up – why we practise it the way we do, and how to create a meaningful practice through stillness, sensation and time.
- Learn how to teach Yin with confidence – whether you’re completely new to teaching Yin or already have experience and want a clear framework for creating and leading your own classes.
- Understand the body through target areas – learning how different Yin shapes work with different areas of the body and how to adapt each shape for individual skeletal needs.
- Work with individual bodies – using props, variations and an understanding of skeletal differences to help students explore postures in ways that are appropriate and supportive for them.
- Create the conditions for a truly Yin experience – from setting the physical and emotional ambience of a class to guiding students into stillness, settling the nervous system and making space for the quieter aspects of practice.
Your Learning Journey (Module by Module)

MODULE 1: The Foundations of Yin Yoga
Understand what Yin Yoga is, how we practise it and what makes it different. We begin with the foundations of Yin, exploring the principles of the practice and how to create the conditions for stillness, sensation and inward awareness.
Deepen your understanding of:
- What Yin Yoga is and how it differs from Yang practices
- The principles of Yin: stillness, time, sensation and appropriate edge
- The physical and mental benefits of Yin
- Creating the ambience of a Yin class
- Settling the nervous system and creating space for stillness

MODULE 2: Yin Shapes, Target Areas & Individual Bodies
This is the heart of the training. You’ll work through the key Yin shapes, learning which areas of the body they target, what you may be asking of the body, and how individual skeletal differences can change the experience of each posture.
Deepen your understanding of:
- The key Yin shapes and their target areas
- Functional anatomy relevant to Yin
- Skeletal variation and why bodies experience shapes differently
- Compression vs tension: how to know the difference
- Props, modifications and adaptations for individual bodies

MODULE 3: The Art of Teaching Yin
Learn how to guide students into the slower, quieter experience of Yin with confidence. Teaching Yin is about more than knowing the postures. You’ll learn how to use your voice, language, presence and environment to help students settle, explore sensation and experience the practice for themselves
Deepen your understanding of:
- How to introduce and demonstrate Yin postures
- Cueing for awareness rather than performance
- Using language that supports choice and individual experience
- Creating a calm, supportive and nourishing class environment

MODULE 4: Creating & Sequencing Yin Classes
Learn how to bring your knowledge of Yin, anatomy and target areas together into cohesive classes. You’ll learn how to choose shapes with intention, organise them into thoughtful sequences and create classes that have a clear purpose without becoming complicated.
Deepen your understanding of:
- Sequencing around target areas
- Choosing shapes and variations with intention
- Class pacing, transitions and the use of stillness
- Creating themes and class intentions
- Adapting sequences for different students and needs

MODULE 5: Your Yin Teaching Practice
Bring everything together and develop the confidence to teach Yin for yourself. The final stage is about taking your learning from theory into practice. You’ll explore how to put the pieces together, teach with greater confidence and begin developing your own natural approach to Yin.
Deepen your understanding of:
- Planning and teaching a complete Yin class
- Adapting your teaching to the people in front of you
- Combining shapes, target areas, props and variations
- Developing your own teaching voice
- Taking your Yin teaching from training into the real world

Meet Your Teacher

I’m Caroline, a yoga teacher and anatomy educator with over 15 years of experience. I spent almost ten years running my own yoga studio in Bali before returning to the UK, where I now specialise in helping yoga teachers understand the body and bring greater intelligence and intention to their teaching.
My Yin education was shaped by studying with Jo Phee, Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, whose approaches gave me a deep understanding of the principles and practice of Yin Yoga. My wider studies with teachers including Tiffany Cruikshank, Jason Crandell and Noah Maze have further developed my understanding of anatomy, movement and the body.
Since 2016, I’ve taught Yin, TCM, fascia and anatomy trainings to teachers around the world, supporting them to move beyond shapes and aesthetics, and guide practices that offer real release, regulation and transformation.
My approach is practical, anatomy-informed and grounded in experience – helping you understand not just what shape you are teaching, but why you are choosing it, what you are targeting, helping teachers lead classes that feel grounded, intelligent and deeply supportive.
